Energy performance certificate (EPC) timetable

When the Government announced the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive legislation (EPBD) a timetable was also introduced for the EPC program. Today residential buildings, commercial buildings and social housing all fall under the EPC schedule for issuing Energy Performance Certificates, with many unsure about deadline dates, the information below serves as a useful resource.

6th April 2008
EPC’s are now by law, on the construction for every dwelling and on the construction, rent and sale of any building (but not dwellings) that has a floor area of > 10,000 m².

1st July 2008
EPCs now needed for any building under construction, for rent or sale (but not dwellings) with a floor area of > 2500 m².

1st October 2008
Any remaining dwellings which were for rent or sale now needed EPCs. EPCs are also needed on all other buildings which were either still under construction, for rent for sale (but not dwellings).
All public buildings which were > 1000 m² also now need a Display Energy Certificates.

4th January 2009
This was the cut-off date for the first initial inspection of every existing commercial air-conditioning unit which was over 250 kW.

4th January 2011
An inspection of every remaining air-conditioning unit over 12 kW needs to be completed by this cut-off date.
