High Voltage Maintenance
High Voltage Switchgear and Transformer Maintenance
An obligation to maintain High Voltage equipment is placed upon the owner by the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Under these regulations, the Health and Safety Executive state that the frequency and quality of maintenance should be sufficient to prevent danger so far as is reasonably practicable.
Most High Voltage equipment manufactures will recommend adequate timescale periods for maintenance periods.
There is also a British Standard covering the maintenance of switchgear operating at voltages between 1kV & 36kV. This document recommends that routine maintenance be organised on the basis of periodic inspections supplemented at extended intervals with operational checks and examination with testing of insulation mediums as appropriate. The document goes on to say that routine diagnostic testing can be a useful guide to determining the frequency of maintenance, as this provides information of deterioration by comparison with previous tests.
When businesses decide to carry out High Voltage maintenance, most will elect to turn to the traditional source: the regional distribution company, e.g. Y.E., East Midlands, Power Gen etc. However significant benefits can be realised by using a reputable company such as EMTAC. We will assess the options available, accurately interpret your needs at the outset and liaise closely with you at all times, with particular attention being paid to quality control.
EMTAC is committed to the provision of high quality electrical engineering design, maintenance, refurbishment and installation of all types of power distribution equipment including transformers and switchgear together with the appropriate cabling requirements.
